Support The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota
Queen Anna is committed to using fashion as a force for good. For the month of August, Queen Anna is proud to support The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota. A portion of the proceeds from the month will be donated to EFMN in honor of Team Rise Above Epilepsy.
Epilepsy, also called a seizure disorder, is a neurological disorder of the brain diagnosed when a person has two or more unprovoked seizures. Did you know that 1 in 10 people will have a seizure in their lifetime, and 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy? Also, more than 60,000 people in our community and 3 million people in the U.S. have epilepsy.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota (EFMN) envisions a world where people with seizures realize their full potential. The Foundation’s services, resources, and events cover MN and Eastern ND and help educate, connect and empower people with epilepsy. Some of these include a 24/7 helpline for personalized attention, a website with hundreds of resources for better understanding epilepsy, an annual walk and year-round events to connect people living with seizures, and a FREE seizure first aid training for workplaces, schools, and more.
What is Team Rise Above Epilepsy? On September 10, 2017, a man named Gab will compete in The “Tor des Géants” - the first non-stop race of its kind to and through the Alps. He’ll run through the Gran Paradiso Natural Park, the Mont Avic Regional Park and through the Aosta Valley with 700 other competitors, aiming to complete the 205 miles. This will all be done on mountain trails with 80,000+ feet of elevation gain and within 150 hours. For those keeping score – that’s the equivalent to climbing Mt Everest almost three times!
Why would he do that? To support his wife, Dr. Julia Valente, and to raise funds and awareness for epilepsy.
